This year’s Guelph Fall Classic was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who made this event so much fun, especially to all of our players.
Congratulations to this year’s champions: Parkwood Gardens Community Church! Parkwood holds onto its title for the second year in a row. In spite of an injury keeping team captain Mike Mackneer out of play, Parkwood stepped up to the plate to add their name to the trophy for a second time with back-to-back championships.
In a repeat of last year, Parkwood beat out Calvary Baptist Church in the final after having lost to them in the round-robin. Calvary went 4-0 in the tournament, only losing the final game.
“We’re getting too old; we’ve only got four games in us,” said Calvary’s score keeper, as their perfect run ran out. The final score was 24-9.
Even though the day began with the temperature in the low single digits, things quickly warmed up as the games began and as the sun came out. We couldn’t have asked for better weather for the tournament finals after lunch.
This year’s tournament also saw two additional teams, one from New Life Christian Reformed Church and a new team from Everton Community Church.
This year’s tournament raised roughly $1500 for Guelph Youth For Christ.
Special thanks goes to Onside Athletics for hosting the tournament, and to Bryan Gillmore, their executive director, for organizing it.
The Guelph Fall Classic will return for its third year on Saturday, October 3, 2020. We hope to see you there!
